Quotes:
1. "In a free government the security for civil rights must be the same as that for religious rights."
-i chose this because this sets a strong foundation of separation of religion and government and protect citizens of U.S from being oppressed or harmed because of their religion.
2. "In republican government, the legislative authority necessarily predominates."
-i found this intriguing and contradicting. the quote clearly states that the legislative authority is the most powerful.
the dictionary definition of "predominates" is : Be the strongest or main element; be greater in number or amount.
Thus, by this definition James Madison is stating that out of 3 branches of the government, the
legislative branch is the dominating power. However, i believe that he meant otherwise,
because the founding fathers' ultimate goal was to create a government that has equal powers among branches.
3. "If a majority be united by a common interest, the rights of the minority will be insecure."
-i think that this statement is very crucial to America's core values of liberty, justice and freedom. Because the quote shows that even the least powerful person has a voice and rights in the land of freedom.
4. "The different governments will control each other, at the same time that each will be controlled by itself." I like this quote because it portrays the division of powers between the state and the federal government. also it highlights that each of the state and the federal has enough powers to have rights and certain powers but not too much to be able to become too powerful.
5. "It is equally evident, that the members of each department should be as little dependent as possible on those of the others."
-I chose this because it gives the sense of responsibilities to each branches of the government. it shows that one branch of the government should fulfill their own work and responsiblities, not by the major help from other branches.
